About the Mission:
The family of Roger E. Ditzel of Corfu, NY has requested PGRNY to participate in honoring his life and service. Mr. Ditzel passed away on 27 September 2021 at the age of 95 at the Batavia VA Medical Center.
Mr. Ditzel served our nation for almost 2 years on active duty in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1944-1946, with an Army MOS of 745-Rifleman. He had 7 months of foreign service in the European Theater of Operations from December 1944-July 1945, including participation in 3 Campaigns: Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was assigned to Company D, 41st Armored Infantry Regiment, 2nd Armored Division. Mr. Ditzel was honorably discharged from active duty at Rhoads General Hospital in Utica, NY on 19 January 1946 with the rank of Private First Class (E-3), and he earned the following awards: Bronze Star Medal; Purple Heart Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; American Campaign Medal; European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal w/3 Bronze Campaign Stars; WW-II Victory Medal; Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and WW-II Honorable Discharge Pin.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: NYS Guidelines of 2 March 2022, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.
Special Information:
PGR will stage in preparation to ride together to the WNY National Cemetery, 1254 Indian Falls Road, Corfu, NY 14036 for the Honors Ceremony.
(NOTE: This is a ceremony only. Mr. Ditzel was previously buried elsewhere with his wife.)
Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or US Army flag, dress for the weather, and ensure your large flags are securely attached.
