About the Mission:
The caretaker of Cold War veteran Richard A. Mengs of Johnsonburg (Wyoming County), NY has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and service. Mr. Mengs passed away on 15 May 2023.
Mr. Mengs served our nation for 2 years on active duty in the US Army Artillery from 1955-1957, with an Army MOS of Ballistic Meteorology Specialist. He had 17 months of foreign service on Okinawa, assigned to Headquarters Battery, 663rd Field Artillery Battalion. Mr. Mengs was honorably discharged from active duty on 31 January 1957 with the rank of Specialist Three (E-3), and he earned the Army Good Conduct Medal.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.
Special Information:
PGR will provide a respectful flag line during the calling hours from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM. The funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 PM. Following the service and dignified transfer, PGR will provide the 10-mile escort to Johnsonburg Cemetery, Centerline Road, Varysburg, NY (West of Route 98) for burial with Military Honors.
