About the Mission:

The family of Mr. Richard Lucas has asked Patriot Guard Riders to participate in his funeral services.  Mr. Lucas passed away October 14, 2022 at 100 years old.

He served in the US Army Air Corps and US Air Force beginning in 1942 and retiring in 1966. During his time in the service he rose to the rank of Technical Sergeant (E-6) with specialties surrounding the maintenance and repair of Air Force planes and equipment.

In WW2 Mr. Lucas served with the 467th Bomb based at Royal Air Force Rackheath, Norfolk, England. That group used B-24 Liberators to bomb targets in France throughout the war and participated in the D-Day invasion.

During the Korean War, Mr. Lucas served mostly in training the next set of mechanics for the Air Force. He worked as an instructor at Sheppard AFB, TX.

Following that time he was promoted and become a Maintenance Scheduling Technician, supervising the repair and maintenance of Air Force planes and equipment. He served primarily with the 1001st Air Base Wing in Andrews AFB, MD. This was also his final duty station from which he retired on 30 September, 1966.

During his military career, Mr. Lucas earned: Air Force Good Conduct Medal w/ 1 oak leaf cluster (2 awards), American Campaign Medal, European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WW2 Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal w/1 bronze star (2 awards), Air Force Longevity Ribbon w/4 bronze oak leaf clusters (5 awards), Air Force Small Arms Expert Marksman Ribbon, WW2 Honorable Discharge Pin (Ruptured Duck), Cold War Service Medal and Army Sharpshooter Qualification Badge (carbine).

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR members will form a flag line for the arrival of the family at the funeral home, expected at 3:30pm.  PGR members will continue the flag line through calling hours, 4pm -6pm.
We will participate in the military honors portion of the services.  There is no cemetery or escort involved with this mission. Please bring a clean 3x5 US flag or Air Force flag. Dress for the weather, the current forecast calls for temperatures in the mid-40s and a small chance of precipitation.
