About the Mission:

The family of WW II Veteran Grace E. Lord has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring her life and service. Mrs. Lord passed away on 14 July 2023 at the age of 99.

Quoting from the Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home obituary: "Grace was a WWII United States Navy Veteran serving with the W.A.V.E.S. (Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Services) as a Yeoman Second Class in New York City and Washington D.C. She was a member of Erie County Women’s post #1586. She was also past secretary of Buffalo W.A.V.E.S. #143 and a charter member of Women’s Memorial Foundation in Arlington, VA. She was a dedicated long term Red Cross volunteer at the former Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Lackawanna, NY. Grace, along with her brother A.T. Walsh, has been recently memorialized at the National WWII Museum in New Orleans, LA, a gift from niece Kathi Walsh of Flagstaff, AZ."

Mrs. Lord achieved the Navy rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class (E-5), and she earned the American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and WWII Honorable Discharge Pin.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR will stage at the funeral home with a respectful flag line for arrival of the family. A prayer service is scheduled for 9:15 AM. Following the dignified transfer, PGR will escort to St. John XXIII Parish on Harlem Road, West Seneca, NY for the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Following the Mass and dignified transfer, PGR will escort to Holy Cross Cemetery, 2900 South Park Avenue, Lackawanna, NY for burial with Military Honors.  Click here for map to cemetery
