About the Mission:

The family of US Air Force Captain William E. Schlueter has requested that Patriot Guard Riders join them in honoring his service to America and celebrating his life during his funeral. Captain Schlueter passed 14 June 2024 at the age of 85 years.

Captain (O-3) Schlueter served twenty years active duty in the US Air Force. During that time he spent four years, two months of foreign duty, including two tours in Vietnam (approximately 24 months). His time in Vietnam was with the 7th Air Force. His other foreign duty was in Germany including time at the US Embassy in Bonn.

Captain Schlueter earned: Bronze Star Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Ribbon, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/ one sliver and one bronze service star (representing six campaigns), Air Force Longevity Ribbon w/ three Oak Leaf Clusters (four awards), Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Force Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/ palm device.

Special Information:

PGR members will perform a dignified transfer from the funeral home to the hearse and provide an escort to the church in Lima (KSU at 8:45am):

At the church, PGR members will form a flag line for the arrival of the cortege then hold the flag line until the beginning of services at 10:00am. PGR members will perform a dignified transfer from the hearse to the church at the start of services. Following services, PGR members will stage for a dignified transfer from church to hearse.

Following services at the church, PGR members will perform a dignified transfer from the church to the hearse. The hearse will depart for the Trout Run Cemetery. The family will be meeting at the cemetery in Trout Run, so there will be no escort. There is a coffee reception at the church for the family and mourners that is expected to last an hour. PGR members heading to the Trout Run Cemetery will leave at the beginning of the coffee hour and resume the mission at Trout Run Cemetery.

Second Stage - Special Information:

The family expects to meet at the cemetery between 2:15pm and 2:30pm. PGR members will create a flag line at the gravesite prior to their arrival. PGR members will perform a dignified transfer from the hearse to the gravesite. We will participate in military honors during services there and perform a final salute as a group once the family has left the gravesite.

Please come prepared with a US or Air Force flag. Bring your own water and dress for the weather. At present the forecasts for temperatures in the high 80s and a chance of rain or thundershowers. Ensure that your large vehicle flags are properly attached for the escort and travel.
