About the Mission:

The family of Cold War Veteran William L. “Bill” Tyler has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his Military Honors Funeral service. Bill passed away at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. Bill was born in Philadelphia, PA. on July 28, 1946. He graduated from Northeast High School and joined the USMC serving from 1966-1970. He obtained the rank of Sergeant (E-5), Serving as an aircraft jet mechanic. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal as well as the Good Conduct Medal. Upon his release from active duty, Bill became a career firefighter and EMT for the City of Philadelphia.

After moving to Western New York, Bill worked for Wegmans in Canandaigua for 13 years until he retired. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Updated 8 March 2022

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR will provide a respectful flag line for the arrival of family and friends. The Memorial Service is scheduled to begin at 5:00pm. Military Honors will immediately follow the service at the Funeral Home. There is no escort involved. Plan to arrive at 2:40pm for a short briefing.

Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or USMC flag, and dress for the weather. As in the past the funeral home will have water available. Thank you for taking the time to honor the US Marine Corps service of William L. (Bill) Tyler, and to support his proud and loving family.
