About the Mission:

The family of William E. Caton has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and service. Mr. Caton of Batavia, NY passed away on 18 June 2023.

Mr. Caton served our nation for 3 years on active duty in the US Army Ordnance Corps from 1968-1971, with an Army MOS of 76S40-Auto Repair Parts Specialist. He served a 12-month deployment to South Vietnam from October 1968-October 1969, and his last duty assignment was with Delta Company, 123rd Maintenance Battalion, 1st Armored Division at Fort Hood, TX. Mr. Caton was honorably discharged from active duty on 15 January 1971 with the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6), and he earned the following awards: National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal w/4 Bronze Service Stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; and Rifle Marksman Qualification Badge.

Mr. Caton was a past member of the American Legion, and a Life Member of Veness-Strollo VFW Post 1602 in Batavia, NY.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR will stand by with a respectful flag line for arrival of the family, expected at approx. 9:30 AM. KSU by 10:15 AM for the escort to the WNY National Cemetery, 1254 Indian Falls Road, Corfu, NY 14036 for the 11:00 AM Committal Service and Military Honors.

If you are unable to participate in the escort, please stage at 10:15 AM at the Pembroke Highway Department, 1145 Main St, Corfu, NY 14036 (Intersection of Routes 5 & 77), and be prepared to quickly join in the escort.

Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or US Army flag, dress for the weather, and ensure your large flags are securely attached. Thank you for devoting your time to help honor the US Army Vietnam War service of William E. Caton, and to support his loving family.
