About the Mission:

The family of retired Air Force Technical Sergeant Erwin J. Zmarzly has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and very extensive military career. TSgt Zmarzly of Buffalo, NY passed away on 21 August 2023.

TSgt Zmarzly served our nation for a total of 37 years of active and reserve duty between 1955-1998 in the US Air Force, US Army, Army National Guard, Air National Guard and US Air Force Reserve. His occupation specialties included: Personnel Specialist, Small Arms Instructor, Small Arms Repairman, Recruiter, and Combat Arms Training & Maintenance Craftsman. TSgt Zmarzly received his honorable retirement on 14 September 1998, and he earned the following awards during his military career: Air Force Gallant Unit Award Ribbon (2 Awards); Army Good Conduct Medal (2 Awards); Air Force Good Conduct Medal; Air Reserve Meritorious Service Medal (3 Awards); National Defense Service Medal (2 Awards - Vietnam War Era & Gulf War Era); Antartica Service Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon (2 Awards); Armed Forces Reserve Medal; Air Force Small Arms Expert marksmanship Ribbon; Air Force Training Ribbon; NYS Long & Faithful Service Award Ribbon; and NYS Recruiting Medal.

An obituary has not been published as of this writing.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR will provide a respectful flag line for arrival of the family and friends. The Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 AM. Following the Mass and dignified transfer, PGR will provide an escort to St. Matthew's Cemetery, 180 Old French Road, West Seneca, NY 14224 for interment with Military Honors.

Please be prepared with an American or US Air Force or US Army flag, and dress for the weather.
