About the Mission:
The family of William Shamp has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and service. Mr. Shamp of Oakfield, NY passed away on 9 November 2023.
Quoting from the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home obituary: "Bill served in the N.Y. National Guard of the Batavia Armory for 9 years. He was a proud Army Reservist for 16 years. Bill served as a First Responder and was head of Fire Police for the Oakfield Fire Dept for 49 years. Bill retired from the Town of Oakfield Highway Dept. after over 30 years of service." Mr. Shamp received his honorable retirement on 9 December 2000 with the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6.)

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.
Special Information:
PGR will provide a respectful flag line for arrival of the family, and during the calling hours from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, followed by military honors. There is no cemetery or escort involved in this mission.
Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or US Army flag, and dress for the weather. Thank you for devoting your time to help honor the military career and 1st Responder service of Staff Sergeant William Shamp, and to support his loving family.
