About the Mission:
The family of US Army Korean War Era Veteran Russell L. Johnson requested Patriot Guard Riders' participation in his military honors funeral services. Mr. Johnson passed on 22 January 2026 at the age of 96 surrounded by his family.
At the age of 18, Mr. Johnson entered the Merchant Marines as a Deck Watchmen at Cleveland, Ohio, responsible for safety on deck. On 15 May 1951, he was called to duty in the US Army and was trained as a Field Radio Repairman (MOS-31E20). He served his nation for 23 months on active duty, including 19 months of foreign service assigned to Ansbach Signal Corp/Military Police, Augsburg, Germany. Mr. Johnson was honorably discharged as Corporal (T)4 on 5 May 1955 at Camp Kilmer, N.J. For his service he was awarded, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and an Army of Occupation Medal, Germany. His daughter Shirley is active with Blue Star Mothers, NY 7, Operation Home Front, and university of Rochester Care Givers Program, Suicide Prevention.
