About the Mission:
The family of Russell Bentley has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and service. Mr. Bentley of Kiantone, NY (Chautauqua County), passed away on 27 April 2023.
Mr. Bentley first served in the US Army from 1962-1966, including 2 years, 9 months of active duty. Army service details are pending, but we know that he served 24 months in Vietnam during that period. For his US Army service, Mr. Bentley earned the following awards: Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal w/4 Bronze Service Stars; and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Mr. Bently then served over 17 years of active duty in the US Air Force from 1966-1983, with an Air Force Specialty of 60370-Vehicle Operations Supervisor. During his career, Mr. Bentley served in multiple locations including: Wurtsmith Air Force Base, Oscoda, Michigan; Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota; McGuire AFB, New Jersey;
Rhein-Main Air Base in Germany; and Andersen Air Force Base, Guam.
Mr. Bentley was honorably retired from the US Air Force on 31 October 1983 with the rank of Technical Sergeant (E-6), and he earned the following awards: Air Force Commendation Medal; Air Force Good Conduct Medal w/1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster (6 Awards); National Defense Service Medal; Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon; Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon w/3 Oak Leaf Clusters (4 Awards); and Air Force NCO Professional Military Education Graduation Ribbon.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.
Special Information:
PGR will provide a respectful flag line for arrival of the family and guests. The funeral service is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM. Following the service and dignified transfer, PGR will escort (approx. 5 miles) to Kiantone Maple Grove Cemetery, Kiantone, NY at the intersection of Donelson Road and Kiantone Road for burial with Military Honors.
Please arrive with a clean 3x5 American, US Army or US Air Force flag, dress for the weather, and ensure your large flags are securely attached.
Mr. Bentley served our nation for over 20 years, including 4 tours in Vietnam. Please do your best to help ensure there is good PGR represention in honoring his service, and in support of his proud and loving family.
