About the Mission:

The family of decorated Vietnam War Combat Veteran Roy (Chip) Clarence Rutherford, Jr. has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and service. Mr. Rutherford passed away on 23 July 2023 after a long battle from Agent Orange-related cancer.

Mr. Rutherford served our nation for 2 years on active duty in the US Army from 1967-1969, with an Army MOS of 11B40-Light Weapons Infantry. He served a 7-month deployment to South Vietnam, assigned to Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Division, during which time he was wounded in action against the enemy. Mr. Rutherford was honorably discharged from active duty on 23 November 1969 with the rank of Sergeant (E-5), and he earned the following awards: Silver Star Medal; Bronze Star Medal w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster (2 Awards); Purple Heart Medal; Combat Infantry Badge; Air Medal; Army Commendation Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR will stage with a respectful flag line for arrival of the family, expected at approx.12:00 PM. KSU at 12:35 PM for the escort to the WNY National Cemetery for the 1:00 PM Committal service and Military Honors.

Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or US Army flag, dress for the weather, and ensure your large flags are securely attached.
