About the Mission:

The family of US Army Green Beret Vietnam War Combat Veteran Ronald Kenneth Butler has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his extraordinary life and service. Mr. Butler of Buffalo, NY passed away on 7 May 2023.

Mr. Butler served our nation for 6 years on active duty in the US Army from 1963-1969. His primary MOS was 051-Radio Operator Supervisor, and his secondary MOSs were 911-Medical Specialist and 112-Heavy Weapons. Mr. Butler had over 2-1/2 years of foreign service, substantially in Vietnam and Laos, and his final duty assignment was with Company A, 10th Special Forces Group. Mr. Butler was honorably discharged from active duty on 24 July 1969 with the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7).

For his extraordinary service, Mr. Butler earned the following awards: Silver Star Medal; Bronze Star Medal w/"V" Device (Valor); Purple Heart Medal w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster (2 Awards); Meritorious Service Medal; Army Presidential Unit Citation; Army Meritorious Unit Commendation; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Silver Service Star (6 Awards); Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Cross Medal; Army Aviator Badge; Army Combat Medical Badge; Army Combat Infantrymans Badge; and Army Parachutist Badge.

Mr. Butler was a proud 82nd Airborne Division Veteran, and was a member of the 82ABN Association in Buffalo, NY.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

Dedicated PGR member and proud Army 82ABN Vietnam Veteran Charlie Gysel will be the Co-RC with Tom Murphy.  PGR will stand by with a respectful flag line for arrival of the family. KSU at 1:10 PM for the escort to the WNY National Cemetery, 1254 Indian Falls Rd, Corfu, NY 14036 for the 2:00 PM interment with Military Honors.

Ronald Kenneth Butler was an extraordinary Vietnam War Combat Veteran. Please do your best to ensure there is good PGR participation in honoring him, and supporting his loving and very proud family.
