About the Mission:

The family of Vietnam War Veteran Robert W. Markiewicz has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and service. Mr. Markiewicz of Depew, NY passed away on 12 August, 2023.

Mr. Markiewicz served our nation for 4 years on active duty in the US Air Force from 1967-1971, with an Air Force Specialty of 57150-Fire Protection Specialist. He had a total of 2 years, 4 months of foreign service, including duty in South Vietnam with an Air Force Civil Engineer Squadron, US Air Force Pacific. Mr. Markiewicz was honorably discharged from active duty on 22 July 1971 with the rank of Sergeant (E-4), and he earned the following awards: Air Force Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Mr. Markiewicz went on to serve a decades-long career as an Air National Guard and civilian fire fighter on the Niagara Falls Air Force Base.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR will provide a respectful flag line for arrival of the family and friends. The Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM. Military and PGR honors will take place at the church, there is no escort or cemetery involved in this Mission.

Please arrive with a clean 3x5 American or US Air Force flag, and dress for the weather. Thank you for devoting your time to help honor the Vietnam War service and NF Air Force Base fire fighting career of Robert W. Markiewicz, and to support his loving family.
