Honor Mission
Robert J. Glass
US Navy
Cold War Veteran
Springville, NY - 05/23/2023
Mission applies to the following Region(s):
Region 1, Region 2
About the Mission:
The wife of US Navy Veteran and motorcycle enthusiast, Robert J. Glass of Hagerstown, MD, formerly of Springville, NY, has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and service. Mr. Glass passed away on 16 May 2023.
Quoting from the request submitted by Mrs. Glass: " Bob was an avid motorcycle rider, owning several bikes, but with a special love for his Harley's. We rode around this beautiful country from coast to coast. My wonderful husband Bob died yesterday at the age of 64 from a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was taken from this life too soon... we had a lot of riding yet to do. I would love to honor my husband's passion for motorcycles and his 8 years of military service in the Navy by having Patriot Guard Riders of New York lead his funeral procession from Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home in Springville NY to his final resting place in Fairview Cemetery in Concord NY. He will have full military honors at his graveside as well. Please let me know if you are able to do this for him. Thank you. Bob's loving wife."
Mr. Glass served our nation for 8 years on active duty in the US Navy from 1976-1984, with a Naval Rating of FTM-Fire Control Technician, Missile. He had a total of four years of sea service, including duty aboard 2 ships: USS Richard L. Page (FFG-5) and USS Julius A. Furer (FFG-6). Both vessels were Brooke-class Frigates, and Mr. Glass experienced Mediterranean cruises on both ships. Mr. Glass was honorably discharged from active duty on 27 September 1984 with the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class (E-6), and he earned the following awards: US Navy Good Conduct Medal w/1 Bronze Service Star (2 Awards); Navy Expeditionary Medal; and Navy "E" Ribbon.
