About the Mission:

Robert F. “Al” Persichitti age 102, passed away peacefully, in a hospital in Heide, Germany on his way to recognize the 80th Anniversary of the invasion at Normandy, France “D-Day”.

Born in Calumet, PA, Robert was a US Navy WWII Veteran. He served aboard the USS Eldorado, a Mount McKinley-class amphibious force command ship, during the invasion of Iwo Jima (February 19 - March 26, 1945) and Okinawa (April 1 - June 21, 1945). He saw the raising of the American Flag on Mt. Surabachi twice from the deck of the ship.

Mr. Persichitti taught vocational school for 16 years in Rochester, NY, and was also a self-employed carpenter. He was a longtime member of the Church of St. Jerome, East Rochester, NY., World War II Museum in New Orleans, LA, American Legion Post #1917, East Rochester, NY, and VFW Perinton Memorial Post #8495, Fairport, NY. Robert was an author of 2 books about the story of his life from his childhood in Pennsylvania all the way through to his 102nd birthday.

Mr. Persichetti's remains are being transported by the family from Ohio to Rochester. Patriot Guard Riders will be honoring Mr. Persichetti with a 3 part mission.   1. PGR will meet the family and escort them from Le Roy to Harloff Funeral Home, East Rochester, 2.  Stand during Calling Hours at the funeral home, and 3.  Stand during chuch services, followed by escort to cemetery.

Special Information:

We will rendezvous at exit 47 of I-90 East where Monroe County Sheriffs and PGR will escort Mr. Persichetti and his family to the Harloff Funeral Home in East Rochester.
