Mission applies to the following Region(s): Region 1, Region 2
About the Mission:

The Patriot Guard Riders have been requested to stand in honor of the life and service of US Army Korean War Combat Veteran Robert Bowen, who passed away on 9 March 2022.

Mr. Bowen served our nation for 4-1/2 years on active duty in the US Army from 1950-1955. Detailed military service information is unavailable due to the 1973 St. Louis fire, but we know that Mr. Bowen fought during the infamous Battle of Heartbreak Ridge from Sep 13, 1951 – Oct 15, 1951. We have confirmation of an honorable discharge on 15 April 1955, and Mr. Bowen earned the following awards: Purple Heart Medal w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster (2 awards); Combat Infantryman Badge; National Defense Service Medal; Korean Service Medal w/4 Bronze Battle Stars; United Nations Service Medal (Korea), and the Army Parachutist Badge.

Important Note: Mr. Bowen had the opportunity to participate on the Buffalo-Niagara Honor Flight on 8 May 2019. Mr. Bowen's daughter has made it clear that it was one of his happiest days, due in part to the early morning and late night escort provided by the PGR. The family has already made a sizeable donation to PGRNY, and has designated PGR for donations in the obituary.
