About the Mission:
The family of Vietnam War Veteran Michael J. Gettings has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and service. Mr. Gettings of East Amherst, NY passed away on 15 October 2023.
Mr. Gettings served our nation for almost 2 years on active duty in the US Army from 1967-1969, with an Army MOS of 05C40-Radio & Teletype Operator. He served a 12-month deployment to South Vietnam, assigned to the 125th Air Traffic Company and the 361st Aviation Brigade. Mr. Gettings was honorably discharged from active duty on 5 April 1969 with the rank of Sergeant (E-5), and he earned the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.
Special Information:
PGR will provide a respectful flag line during the 2nd half of calling hours from 11:30 AM-1:00 PM. The funeral service and Military Honors are scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM. There is no cemetery or escort involved in this Mission.
Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or US Army flag, and dress for the weather. Thank you for taking time to help honor the US Army Vietnam War service of Michael J. Gettings, and to support his loving family.
