About the Mission:

The family of US Army Vietnam War Veteran Jan Norman Schmeichel has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and service. Mr. Schmeichel passed away on 3 February 2023.

Mr. Schmeichel served our nation for 2 years on active duty in the US Army from 1965-1967, with an Army MOS of Light Weapons Infantryman. He served a full 12-month deployment to South Vietnam, and his final assignment was with Able Company, 4th Battalion (Mechanized), 61st Infantry Regiment at Fort Ord, CA. Mr. Schmeichel was honorably discharged from active duty on 20 October 1967 with the rank of Specialist Four (E-4), and he earned the following awards: Army Good Conduct Medal; Army Combat Infantry Badge; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; and Rifle Sharpshooter Qualification Badge.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR will provide a respectful flag line for arrival of the family and friends. The memorial service is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm, followed by Military Honors.  There is no escort or cemetery involved in this Mission.

Please arrive with a clean 3x5 American or US Army flag, and dress for the weather.
Thank you for devoting your time to help honor the Vietnam War combat service of Jan Norman Schmeichel, and to support his loving family.
