About the Mission:
The family of James W. "Jim" West has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and service to our nation. Mr. West of Lakeville, NY passed away on 7 May 2024 at the age of 87.
Mr. West initially enlisted in the US Army, and completed 6 months (February-August 1958) of basic training and Signal Corps active duty at Fort Gordon, GA. He was released to Army Reserve status, but was called to active duty in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was stationed in Quantico, VA during that period. Mr. West completed his Army Reserve obligation on 16 January 1964, and he earned the Cold War Service Commemorative Medal.
Mr. West served for 15 years as a volunteer firefighter with the Bushnell Basin Fire Department in Fairport, NY.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.
Special Information:
PGR will provide a respectful flag line for arrival of the West family and guests. The Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 AM. Following the Mass and dignified transfer, PGR will provide an escort (approx. 10 miles) to St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, 4324 Shelly Rd, Livonia, NY 14487 for burial with Military Honors. Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or US Army flag, dress for the weather, and ensure your large flags are securely attached for the 10-mile escort.
