About the Mission:
The family of Korean War Veteran James Louis Pierakos of South Buffalo, NY has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and service. Mr. Pierakos passed away on 9 June 2023.
Mr. Pierakos served our nation for almost 2 years on active duty in the US Army from 1952-1954, with an Army MOS of 1740-Chief Intermediate Speed Radio Operator.
He served 15 months of foreign service in South Korea, assigned to Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 19th Engineer Combat Group, 8th US Army. Mr. Pierakos was honorably discharged from active duty on 22 May 1954 with the rank of Corporal (E-4), and he earned the following awards: National Defense Service Medal; Korean Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars (3 Awards); United Nations Service Medal (Korea); and Korean War Service Medal.
Mr. Pierakos was a member of the South Buffalo Post #721 American Legion.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.
Special Information:
PGR will stand a respectful flag line during the 2nd half of calling hours from 5:00-7:00 PM. PGR will make the plaque presentation just prior to the special 7:00 PM Trisagion Service. The PGR Mission will be complete at that point. There is no escort or cemetery involved in this Mission.
Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or US Army flag, and dress for the weather. Thank you for devoting your evening to help honor the US Army Korean War service of James Louis Pierakos, and to support his loving family.
