About the Mission:

The family of Vietnam War Veteran Herman Frederick "Fred" Henry, Jr. has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and service. Mr. Henry passed away on 12 October 2022 at the Buffalo VA Hospital.

Mr. Henry, Jr. served our nation for over 20 years on active duty in the US Army from 1961-1981, including a total of 5-1/2 years of foreign service in Europe and Vietnam.  He had 2 Army Military Occupation Specialties: 67N30-Utility Helicopter Repairer, and 67W30-Aircraft Quality Control Supervisor. Mr. Henry's possible service with the 5th Special Forces Group in Indochina is pending confirmation. Mr. Henry, Jr. received his honorable retirement at Fort Riley, KS on 30 November 1981 with the rank of Sergeant (E-5), and he earned the following awards during his career: Army Commendation Medal w/1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster (2 Awards); Army Good Conduct Medal w/3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters (4 Awards); National Defense Service Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Vietnam Service Medal w/3 Bronze Service Stars (4 Awards); Army NCO Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; Army Overseas Service Ribbon; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Palm; and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Mr. Henry, Jr. was a member and Post Commander of American Legion Post #626 in Alabama, NY, and was a member of Patriot Guard Riders.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR will stage in preparation for the possible arrival of the family (TBD). KSU at 12:35 PM to proceed to WNY National Cemetery for the 1:00 PM Commital Service and military honors.

Please arrive with a clean 3x5 American or US Army flag, and dress for the weather. Thank you for devoting your time to help honor the US Army career and Vietnam War service of Herman "Fred" Henry, Jr., and to support his loving family.
