About the Mission:

The family of James P. Ryan has asked PGR to participate in honoring his service to American and celebrating his life.

Mr. Ryan is a US Marine Corps veteran who retired with the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt, E-7) after twenty-one years and nine months service. GySgt Ryan held two MOS: 0844, Marine Corps Field Artillery Fire Control Man; and 0848, Marine Corps Field Artillery Operations Man (Field Artillery Operations Chief). GySgt Ryan served a total of four years, three months foreign duty, and included service in the Vietnam War Era, Cold War, and Gulf War Era.

GySgt Ryan earned: Navy Commendation Medal w/ 1 Bronze Star (2 awards) ~ Navy Achievement Medal w/ 1 Bronze Star (2 awards) ~ Joint Meritorious Unit Award ~ Navy Unit Commendation ~ Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation w/ 1 Bronze Star (2 awards)~ Good Conduct Medal w/ 1 Silver Star (6 awards) ~ National Defense Services Medal w/ 1 Bronze Star (2 awards) ~ Humanitarian Service Medal ~ Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon w/ 3 Bronze Stars (4 awards) ~ Overseas Ribbon ~ Cold War Service Medal ~ Rifle Expert Badge (7 awards) ~ Pistol Expert Badge (4 awards) ~ Meritorious Mast ~ Letter of Commendation ( 6 awards) ~ Letter of Appreciation (2 awards).

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Updated 8 March 2022

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR members will form a flag line for the arrival of GySgt Ryan's cremains, expected at 10:15am.  Arrival of the family, expected at 10:30am, followed by a Funeral Mass, at 11:00am.  Following the Mass, PGR members will perform a dignified transfer and escort the procession to White Haven Memorial Park for graveside services.  The cortege is expected to arrive at White Haven Memorial Park at approximately 12:30pm.  If you are unable to participate at the church, consider meeting the cortege at the entrance to White Haven.

PGR members will perform a dignified transfer to the gravesite and participate in graveside services, whicth are expected to include military honors.  Following services, PGR members will perform a final salute as a group.

Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or US Marine Corps flag, dress for the weather, and ensure your large flags are securely attached. Thank you for devoting your time to help honor US Marine Corps Veteran (Retired), Gunnery Sergeant, James P. Ryan’s service to us all, and to support his loving family.
