About the Mission:

The family of US Navy Veteran Gary L. Kernen has requested Patriot Guard Riders' participation in his military honors funeral services. Mr. Kernen passed on 3 October 2025 at the age of 77 surrounded by his family.

After graduating High School in Red Oak, Montgomery County, Iowa, Mr. Kernen entered the Navy on 24 January 1969. He served his nation for 4 years on active duty as an Aviation Electronics Technician.  His time included 1 year Sea service aboard the USS Intrepid (CVS-11), an Essex-class Aircraft Carrier. He was honorably discharged at HS-5 Naval Air Station, Norfolk, Virginia on 23 January 1973. For his service, Mr. Kernen was awarded; Navy/Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, and National Defense Service Medal.

After his military service, Mr. Kernen was a member and retiring from IBEW Union #41 in Orchard Park, NY.
