About the Mission:

Patriot Guard Riders of NY has been requested to stand in honor of the life and service of Donald Nelson VanBuren of Batavia, NY, who passed away on 12 July 2022.

Full military service info is pending, but we know at least that Mr. VanBuren served 2 years of active duty in the US Army Infantry from 1952-1954, with an Army MOS of Rifleman. He served 14-1/2 months of foreign combat duty in South Korea, assigned to Easy Company, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. Mr. VanBuren was honorably discharged from active duty on 14 October 1954 with the rank of Corporal (E-4), and he earned the following awards: Army Combat Infantryman Badge; National Defense Service Medal; Korean Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars; Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation; United Nations Service Medal (Korea); and 2 Overseas Service Bars.

To be confirmed, Mr. VanBuren may have had another term of enlistment thru 1960 and he may have earned the Bronze Star Medal. He was a member of the
Veness-Strollo VFW in Batavia, NY.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: NYS Guidelines of 2 March 2022, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.

Special Information:

PGR will stand with a respectful flag line for the arrival of the family and funeral director.  KSU at 10:35 AM for the escort to the WNY National Cemetery, 1254 Indian Falls Road, Corfu, NY 14036 for the 11:00 AM interment ceremony with Military Honors.  Please arrive with a clean 3x5 American or US Army flag and dress for the weather.
