About the Mission:
The family of Vietnam War veteran David M. Bernas has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and service. Mr. Bernas of Boston, NY passed away on 15 February 2024.
Mr. Bernas served our nation for almost 2 years on active duty in the US Marine Corps from 1969-1971, with a Marine Corps MOS of 2531-Field Radio Operator. He served in combat in Vietnam, assigned to Sub Unit #1, 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO.) Mr. Bernas received his honorable discharge from active duty on 25 February 1971 with the rank of Lance Corporal (E-3), and he earned the following awards: USMC Combat Action Ribbon; Navy-Marine Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Service Stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Certificate of Commendation; and Rifle Marksman Badge.
Mr. Bernas was a life member and Past Chief of the North Boston Volunteer Fire Company.

Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.
Special Information:
PGR will provide a respectful flag line for arrival of the family and guests. The funeral service and military honors are scheduled for 11:00 AM. There is no cemetery or escort involved in this mission.
Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or USMC flag, and dress for the weather. Thank you for devoting your time to help honor the US Marine Corps and 1st Responder service of David M. Bernas, and to support his proud and loving family.
SPECIAL NOTE: The son of Mr. Bernas - Mark Bernas - followed in his father's footsteps as a proud Marine Corps Combat veteran, with service in Iraq in 2005.
