About the Mission:
Patriot Guard Riders of NY has been requested to participate in honoring the life and service of Dana F. Fanaro, formerly of Mt. Morris, NY, who passed away on 1 July 2022 in Palmyra, NY.
Mr. Fanaro was a decorated Marine Corps Veteran, who served our nation for a total of 14 years, including 10 years of active duty during the periods of 1965-1969, 1975-1977, and 1979-1982. His first period of enlistment was during the Vietnam War, with an MOS of 2533-Radio Telegraph Operator. Mr. Fanaro served valorously for over 2 years in Vietnam, where he was wounded in action against the enemy on 20 August 1966 while serving as a Radio Operator with Company A, 1st Battalion, Fourth Marines in the vicinity of Cam Lo. Despite his injuries, Mr. Fanaro served heroically and courageously in ensuring his fellow wounded Marines were safely evacuated.
He was honorably discharged on 14 January 1969 with the rank of Sergeant (E-5), and he earned the following awards: Bronze Star Medal w/Combat "V"; Purple Heart Medal; Presidential Unit Citation; Marine Corps Combat Action Ribbon; Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon; Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars; Vietnam Civil Action Citation Award 1st Class; and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
During the period 1975-1977, Sergeant Fanaro distinguished himself as a Battalion Training and Defense NCO with 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment; 2nd Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force at Camp Lejeune, NC.
During the period 1979-1982, Mr. Fanaro went on to achieve the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Two (CW)-2). He served as a Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defense Officer at Camp Lejeune during his final 3 years of service, and received Certificates of Commendation; Letter of Appreciation; and Meritorious Mast. Mr. Fanaro's final date of active duty was 3 February 1982.

PGR will stand by with a respectful flag line for arrival of the family. KSU at approx. 12:45 PM for the 45-mile escort to Bath National Cemetery, San Juan Ave, Bath, NY 14810 for the 2:00 PM Interment with Military Honors.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The majority of this escort will at 60 MPH expressway speed. It is CRITICAL that your large flags are very securely attached. Please check them!!!
Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or USMC flag, and dress for the weather.
NOTE: If you are unable to participate in the escort, please consider staging at 1:45 PM with a respectful flag line directly at the BNC temporary shelter.
