About the Mission:
The family of Vietnam Veteran Cyril A. "Cy" Powenski has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and service. Mr. Powenski of Hamburg, NY passed away on 18 January 2024.
Mr. Powenski served our nation for a total of almost 6 years on active duty in the US Navy from 1963-1969, with a Navy rating of CS (Culinary Specialist). His service included 16 months of foreign duty, including in Vietnam, and he was assigned to Reconnaissance Attack (Heavy) Squadron One (RVAH-1). Mr. Powenski was honorably discharged from active duty on 9 August 1969 while stationed at Naval Air Station, Grosse Island, Michigan with the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class (E-5), and he earned the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.
Special Information:
PGR will be prepared with a respectful flag line for the arrival of Mr. Powenski, his family, and the funeral home staff. KSU at 12:30 PM for the escort to WNY National Cemetery, 1254 Indian Falls Rd, Corfu, NY 14036 for the 1:00 PM interment and Military Honors.
Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or US Navy flag, dress for the weather, and ensure your large flags are securely attached. Thank you for devoting your time to help honor the US Navy Vietnam War service of Cyril A. "Cy" Powenski, and to support his loving family.
