Help On The Homefront

(HOTH)

What is HOTH

Image

Help on the Homefront (HOTH) is a volunteer outreach program of Patriot Guard Riders of New York, Inc., which assists our military heroes and their families that reside in New York state. Our veterans have earned our respect and gratitude for their selfless, heroic acts.  Through our HOTH programs, we can assist these heroes who may now need our help.

There are currently two programs under the HOTH umbrella.

Veteran Financial Assistance:   The Veteran Financial Assistance is a volunteer outreach program that may provide a one-time financial support to U.S. Armed Forces veterans who require some financial assistance due to an unforeseen financial hardship brought about by circumstances or events that are beyond the veteran's control.

Veteran Transition Assistance:  May provide security deposit/first month rent or one-time delivery of new furniture to U.S. Armed Forces homeless veterans who are in financial need and have been a resident of an in-house program receiving counseling/treatment with Department of Veterans Affairs or other valid veteran agency and are now moving into their own residence.

(A veteran may only qualify and receive assistance through one of our programs only once.)

Must be a veteran to apply

Title 38 of the Code of Federal Regulations defines a veteran as “a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service and who was discharged or released under conditions other than "dishonorable.”  This definition explains that any individual that completed a service for any branch of armed forces classifies as a veteran as long as they were not dishonorably discharged.

Guard & Reserve members are eligible if: they have reached 20 years of service, even if they were never activated on a [federal] order for more than 180 days outside of training, will now be considered a veteran.  Or if they were activated for more than 180 days consecutively and they were not dishonorably discharged.

Other factors that are taken into consideration are items such as: the veteran's income level; if discharge was “Other Than Honorable” the reason for that type of discharge; and the cause for the financial hardship or homelessness.  Each application is reviewed individually and the PGRNY Board of Directors will approve or deny based on merit.

Our assistance is a one-time assistance, therefore a veteran may not apply and have received our assistance more than once.

We are only able to continue supporting our veterans through HOTH and its programs by the generous donations from the community.  Please consider donating today.

Veteran Financial Assistance

The Veteran Financial Assistance is a volunteer outreach program that may provide a one-time financial support to U.S. Armed Forces veterans who require some financial assistance due to an unforeseen financial hardship brought about by circumstances or events that are beyond the veteran's control.

This assistance may also be available to an immediate family member (mother, father, sibling, son or daughter) of a U.S. Armed Forces member who is or qualifies as a Gold Star Family member.

Assistance may also be available to an immediate family member who is, or qualifies as, a Blue Star Family member of a deployed active duty soldier who is currently serving in a theater of combat operation.

If these criteria are met and the veteran is experiencing a particular financial hardship, he or she may fill out an application for Veteran's Financial Assistance.  After receiving all necessary information for an applicant, the request must be reviewed by a HOTH team member; and if acceptable, submitted to the Board of Directors (BOD) for approval.   Once the BOD has approved the request, the payment will go directly to the party or parties owed.   The monies approved do not go directly to the veteran.

After reviewing a veteran's request for financial assistance, a referral to other agencies for support with counseling, financial management or benefit application may take place.

All cases are reviewed individually and are based on merit.  Veteran must be a resident of New York state.

Veteran Transition Assistance

Veteran Transition Assistance is a volunteer outreach program that may provide either security deposit/first month's rent or one-time delivery of new furniture to U.S. Armed Forces veterans who are in financial need and have been a resident of an in-house program with Veterans Affairs or another valid veteran-supported agency.   The existence of these conditions must be documented and verified by the valid agency where the veteran has or is receiving treatment/counseling.

If these criteria are met and the veteran will be moving to their own residence, he or she may fill out an application for Veteran Transition Assistance where a determination will be made if he or she may qualify for our program.

After receiving all necessary information for an applicant, the request must be reviewed; and if acceptable, be submitted to the Board of Directors (BOD) for approval. Once the BOD has approved the request, arrangements will be made for the payment of security deposit/first month's rent directly to the landlord or property management company or arrangements made for the veteran to receive a one-time delivery of select pieces of new furniture directly from Raymour & Flanigan to their new residence.

All cases are reviewed individually and are based on merit.  Veteran must be a resident of New York state.
