About the Mission:

Vietnam Combat Veteran Brendan "Joe" McGarry faithfully and honorably executed his duties to our nation, first in the US Marine Corps, and then in the NYPD.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 27 June 1966, serving as Supply Administrative Man (3041) and was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal on 26 June 1969, and remained serving in the Reserve until 26 June 1972.

For his service, he was awarded the following: Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Rifle Marksman Qualification Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Following his exemplary military service, he joined New York City Transit Police in 1971, retiring in 2005 after his second heart attack.  The McGarry family has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his interment.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: NYS Guidelines of 2 March 2022, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

Staging at 7-Eleven on Wellwood before moving to Honoree's daughter's house a few blocks away.  From there, we will escort family to Long Island National Cemetery.  His wife and dependent child predeceased him; there will be three urns containing cremains.
