About the Mission:

The family of Horst E.C. Baumgarten has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. Horst, 93, passed on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.

Born in Breslau, Germany, Horst survived the time period during and after World War II during which he apprenticed in demolition to help with reconstruction, and also as a baker. Emigrating to the United States in late 1953, he was inducted into the United States Army on January 19,1954 in Albany, New York. He completed his Basic Training at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and served in the 108th Quartermaster Company at Fort Devons, Massachusetts, with a final assignment at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. After serving his new country faithfully, he was honorably discharged at the rank of Private in May 1956, released from active military service and transferred to the Army Reserve to complete 8 years full service time under the Universal Military and Training Act of 1951. His decorations include the National Defense Service Medal.

After his military service, Horst moved to Schenectady where he began his family and civilian life working construction.  He was eventually trained and employed by General Electric as a Vertical Lathe Machinist making Generator Components. He retired after over 35 years of service at the age of 65. He was longtime parishioner of St. Luke's Parish.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

Staging at the church with a flag line at the front entrance for the arrival of the funeral cortege. PGR members please park on Furman Street, facing State. A 12:00 pm Funeral Mass will be conducted, followed by LEO escort to Saratoga National Cemetery for 2:30 pm interment with military honors.
