About the Mission:

The family of William Henry Riley has requested Patriot Guard Rider participation in his military honors funeral services. William, 87, formerly of 6th Ave. passed away peacefully Monday July 18, 2022 at Rosewood Gardens Nursing Home.

Born in Cohoes, William was educated in Troy Schools. He entered the US Navy on 23 March 1954 and completed 3 years and 8 months of honorable service, including 1 year and 6 months of sea service aboard the USS James M Gilliss (MBC-13), a YMS-1-class minesweeper. He was honorably discharged at the rating of Fireman, and for his service was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

Bill had been employed for 12 years by CDTA and retired in 1998. Prior to that, he worked at Williams Press and was a volunteer fireman in Brunswick. He worked as a volunteer at the Stratton VAMC in Albany, for which he received an award in 2015 for 12,500 hours of continuous service. He was able to take the Honor Flight to Washington DC in June of 2015. Bill enjoyed fishing and spending time at his camp on Schroon River.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: NYS Guidelines of 2 March 2022, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

Staging at the funeral home with a flag line for the arrival of family and guests. A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 am, followed by a dignified transfer and escort to Saratoga National Cemetery for interment with military honors.

Interment with military honors scheduled for 11:30 am. Please stage quietly and be aware of any services already in progress.

NOTE:
If there is a service in progress at Interment Shelter 2, riders are not to proceed past the Solomon Memorial until those services have concluded.
