About the Mission:

The family of William C. "Wild Bill" Walthousen has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. Bill, 73, passed at home after a long hard battle with cancer.

Born in Olean, NY, Bill enlisted in the US Army on 22 November 1967. He was trained as a Chemical Operations Apprentice (MOS 54A10), and spent a 16 month tour of duty in Vietnam. He was discharged as a Private on 23 September 1969, and for his service, was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Upon returning to the states, Bill worked in various places in the Troy area, mostly commercial remodeling, driving trucks and Fort Orange Paper Co. Bill liked to refinish old furniture, ride his motorcycles and quads. He enjoyed watching local and NASCAR car racing and the 49ers Football team as well as the Army-Navy game. He belonged to the Lansingburgh Veterans Club, the All Troy Club and the DAV.

Portions of the above narrative are contained in Bill's obituary, which is alsoo available for viewing in today's Albany Times Union newspaper.
