About the Mission:

Patriot Guard Riders has been invited to participate in the military honors funeral services of Richard W. Bacon.  Richard, 78, of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at his home.

Born in Gloversville, NY, Richard was a 1961 graduate of Broadalbin Central High School and then attended Plattsburgh University. After college, Richard proudly served in the United States Army, entering on 12 September 1966.  He was trained as an Armored Crewman (MOS 11E20), and spent a one year tour of duty at Chu Lai, South Vietnam with C Troop, 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry, 1st Regiment of Dragoons, where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart.  He was honorably discharged on 10 August 1968 at the rank of Specialist 5th Class (E-5), and for his service, was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, 2 Overseas Bars and Sharpshooter Badge (M-14).

After his military service, Richard was very active in his military community.  He was the past commander of the American Legion, Post 574, in Hudson Falls and past president of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 79.  He enjoyed the great outdoors, including flyfishing, tying flies, hunting and canoeing throughout the Adirondacks. Richard loved taking in the sights and scenes of the mountains while out for a drive. He also enjoyed reading in his quiet time, while soaking in the sun on his porch.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: NYS Guidelines of 2 March 2022, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

We will stand flagline for the dignified transfer and then provide an escort to Saratoga National Cemetery for a 10:00 a.m. service in shelter one.  Myself and Ray Sestak were both good friends of his. Rest in Peace My friend and have some fun with St. Patrick.

Second Stage - Special Information:

Note that there is a new staging protocol for Saratoga National Cemetery.  PGR members will stage by parking ONLY on the right side of the roadway near Section 21.  If that area is full, the overflow parking area will be on the right side of the roadway near Interment Shelter 1.  Please park as closely together as possible.  As always, you are asked to stage quietly and respectfully.  Interment services for this mission will be conducted in Interment Shelter 1.    Please click here to view a map of the designated area
