About the Mission:

Patriot Guard Riders has been requested by the family of Henry Joseph "Sonny" Kelly to participate in his military honors funeral services. Henry died at home on Thursday, July 2, 2015 in Saranac, NY.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Henry enlisted in the United States Navy on 4 January 1955.  He served a total of 5 years and 4 months, including time in Christchurch, NZ.  He was honorably discharged on 2 June 1960 at the rank of Seaman (E-3), and for his service, was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He completed his inactive reserve obligation on 3 January 1963.

After his military service, Henry came to reside in Brooklyn, NY, later settling in Lyndhurst. He was a member of the Lyndhurst Fire Department and was appointed to the Lyndhurst Police Department on November 1, 1966. He retired as Detective Serrgeant in 1993. He moved to Saranac, NY in 1996, where he belonged to American Legion Posts 1619 and 139.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: NYS Guidelines of 2 March 2022, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

We will meet family at the staging area and provide an escort to Saratoga National Cemetery for a 1:00 pm service.

Second Stage - Special Information:

Note that there is a new staging protocol for Saratoga National Cemetery.  PGR members will stage by parking ONLY on the right side of the roadway near Section 21.  If that area is full, the overflow parking area will be on the right side of the roadway near Interment Shelter 1.  Please park as closely together as possible.  As always, you are asked to stage quietly and respectfully.  Interment services for this mission will be conducted in Interment Shelter 1.    Please click here to view a map of the designated area
