Honor Mission

Daniel D. Gill

US Army Air Forces
WWII Veteran

Greece, NY - 08/13/2022

Mission applies to the following Region(s):

Region 1, Region 2

About the Mission:

The family of Mr. Daniel D. Gill has asked PGR to participate in honoring his World War II service. Mr. Gill passed away January 06, 2022. His interment was postponed until better weather to accommodate his spouse. Unfortunately, Mrs. Gill passed away a week ago and so the two will be interred at the same time on Saturday.

Information about Mr. Gill's service remains unknown. He served in the US Army Air Forces from 1943 - 1946 in the 83rd Fighter Squadron and the 78th Fighter Group. Mr. Gill attained the rank of Sergeant, however his position and job categories are unknown at present.  The 83rd Fighter Squadron was a training group, activated in 1943 and disbanded in 1944.

The 78th Fighter Group was based in Duxford, England from 1943 through October 1945. During that time, and when Mr. Gill was serving, the 78th earned two (2) Distinguished Unit Citations for action over Europe. Additionally, the 78th was part of the D-Day landings and many actions across Europe leading to the allied victory.

I will update this information if more becomes available.
