About the Mission:

The family of Bernardino "Bernie" Surita has asked PGR to participate in honoring his life and service to the United States.

Mr. Surita was a US Navy veteran during the Vietnam Era and Cold War. He served five years active duty (1963-68), with four years and seven months of sea or foreign service. He reached a rating of Machinist's Mate 3 (E-4), and served aboard USS Albert T. Harris (DE-447), a John C. Butler-class destroyer escort. Mr. Surita was among the final crew of this ship before it was retired in September, 1968.

Mr. Surita earned: US Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Cold War Service Medal, and the Honorable Discharge Commemorative Medal.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Updated 8 March 2022

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR Members will form a flag line at the funeral home for the arrival of family members - expected at 10:30am.  PGR Members will stand the flag line through calling hours, which are set to end at 12:00pm.  Services at the funeral home are expected to begin at 12:00pm.  Following those services - expected to end between 12:30pm and 12:45pm - PGR Members will perform a dignified transfer, and then escort Mr. Surita to Bath National Cemetery.  See the second stage for additional information.

Second Stage - Special Information:

UPDATED

Bath National Cemetery has re-opened the regular Committal Shelter. Members staging at Bath National please park your vehicles at the top of the hill around the flagpole. PGR Members will form a flag line at the Committal Shelter for the arrival of the cortege - expected 1:45pm.  Services are scheduled for 2:00pm and PGR will render honors during services with the military honor guard.  After the family leaves the Committal Shelter area, PGR Members will offer a final salute.

Please come prepared with a clean US or Navy flag.  The current weather forecast is for temperatures in the upper 30s with a chance of rain.  Thank you for devoting your time to participate in honoring US Navy Veteran Bernie Surita and supporting his loving family.
