About the Mission:

Patriot Guard Riders of NY has been requested to stand in honor of the life and service of Thomas G. Whiting of Marilla, NY, who passed away on 5 August 2022.

Mr. Whiting served our nation for 2 years on active duty in the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps from 1954-1956, with an Army MOS of 760-Radio Operator, AACS. He had 13 months of foreign service in Germany, assigned to the 517th Ordnance Company, 81st Ordnance Battalion, 51st Ordnance Group, 7th U.S. Army. Mr. Whiting was honorably discharged from active duty on 21 February 1956 with the rank of Private First Class (E-3). He earned the Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Germany), National Defense Service Medal, and Cold War Service Medal.

"We regret to announce the passing of Past Chief and 63-year active member Thomas Whiting. Born March 6th, 1934, Tom served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 and joined Marilla Fire Company on December 2, 1959. Claude Kratt was President and Kenneth Roloff was Fire Chief at that time. Positions Tom held in the fire company are as follows: 3rd Assistant Chief 1969 to June 1970, 1976 and 1980. 2nd Assistant Chief June 1970 to 1971. 1st Assistant Chief 1972 and 1981. Fire Company Chief 1973-1975, 1978 1979, and 1982. Director 1972-1983,1986-1988. 1992-1994. Tom was also in charge of the rifle squad at our Memorial Day services from 1961-1966. He was honored by the town of Marilla for 60 years of dedicated services on Memorial Day in 2019. Tom remained active and responded to emergency calls up until June of 2022. On behalf of the members and officers of the Marilla Fire Company, we offer condolences and prayers to Tom’s wife Marion, as well as the rest of the family. Thank you Chief Whiting for your many years of Service."

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: NYS Guidelines of 2 March 2022, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR will stand a respectful flag line for the arrival of the family and guests.  The funeral service is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM.  Military Honors will be rendered at the church.
PGR will provide an escort to nearby Marilla Cemetery on Two Rod Road, Marilla, NY for interment.
