About the Mission:
The family of US Army Colonel Howard E. "Bud" Wilcox, Jr. has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his extraordinary life and service. COL Wilcox, a veteran of the Vietnam War and Gulf War eras, passed away on 5 November 2023.
COL Wilcox served our nation for a total of 26 years on active duty in the US Army from 1968-1994. During his career he held the following Military Specialties: Personnel Programs Management Staff; Personnel Systems Management; Adjutant General, General; Ordnance, General; Operations Research, General; and Community Activities Management. COL Wilcox's last duty assignment was with the US Army Information Systems Command, and he received his honorable retirement on 31 May 1994. During the course of his Army career, Colonel Wilcox, Jr. earned the following awards: Defense Superior Service Medal; Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal (4 Awards); Army Commendation Medal (3 Awards); National Defense Service Medal (2 Awards); Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Army Service Ribbon; and Army Overseas Service Ribbon.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.
PGR will provide a respectful flag line for arrival of the family and guests. The Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 12:00 PM, followed by military honors at the church.
There is no escort involved in this Mission.
Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or US Army flag, and dress for the weather. Thank you for taking time to help honor the extraordinary military career of Colonel Howard E. "Bud" Wilcox, Jr., and to support his proud and loving family.
