About the Mission:

Patriot Guard Riders of NY has been requested to stand in honor of the life and service of US Army Colonel Alan C. West of East Amherst, NY, who passed away on 13 July 2022.

Following Army ROTC graduation from Niagara University, Mr. West served our nation for a total of 30 years of military service, including 4 years of active duty from 1967-1971, and Army Reserve duty until his retirement in 1997, with the majority of his time associated with the Army Ordnance Corps. His MOS during his active duty was 4514-Conventional Ammunition Officer, and he had 13 months of foreign service in the Korea DMZ.  He was honorably discharged on 23 April 1971 with the rank of Captain (O-3.)

Mr. West went on to serve in a variety of Reserve ordnance positions and graduation from several Army command & leadership courses.  He was promoted through the Major, Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel ranks. The majority of his assignment was with the 98th Infantry Division (Training) in Tonawanda, Syracuse and Ithaca, with his final duty assignment as the Deputy Commander, New Cumberland Army Ordnance Depot, Harrisburg, PA during Desert Shield.

At a minimum, Colonel West's awards included the Army Meritorious Service Medal w/2 Oak Leaf Clusters (3 awards); Army Commendation Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea); National Defense Service Medal; and Cold War Service Medal.

COL West was a member of the Pvt. Leonard Post Jr. VFW Post 6251 in Cheektowaga, NY.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: NYS Guidelines of 2 March 2022, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR will be prepared with a respectful flag line for arrival of the family and funeral director.  KSU at 9:15 AM for the escort to the WNY National Cemetery, 1254 Indian Falls Road, Corfu, NY 14036 for the 10:00 AM interment with Military Honors.  Click here fo rmap to cemetery

NOTE: For anyone unable to participate in the escort, please consider providing a flag line at the cemetery entrance for arrival of the cortege, then proceed to the Interment Shelter.
Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or US Army flag, dress for the weather, and ensure your large flags are securely attached.
