About the Mission:

The family of Alfred A. Runo has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and service. Mr. Runo of Cheektowaga, NY passed away on 25 January 2023.

Mr. Runo served our nation for 4 years on active duty in the US Marine Corps from 1948-1952, with a Marine MOS of 0336-Mortar Unit Leader. He served on Guam from 12/48-02/50, and in Japan and Korea from 08/50-07/51. While stationed in Korea, Mr. Runo participated in the assault and seizure of Inchon; the capture and securing of Seoul; the Wonsan-Hungnam-Chosin Campaign in Northern Korea; and operations against enemy forces in South and Central Korea. As one of the "Chosin Frozen" who came close to loosing his toes, Mr. Runo was honorably discharged from active duty on 1 August 1952 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. His complete list of awards are pending, but the following are confirmed: Marine Combat Action Ribbon; Presidential Unit Citation; Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Korean Service Medal w/3 Battle Stars (4 Awards); United Nations Service Medal (Korea); USMC Rifle Expert Qualification Badge; Cold War Service Medal; NYS Conspicuous Service Star Medal; and NYS Medal for Merit.

According to his daughter, Mr. Runo was an extremely proud and patriotic American and Marine Corps Veteran.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR will provide a respectful flag line for the arrival of the family. A prayer service is scheduled for 10:45 AM.  Following the dignified transfer, PGR will escort to Saint Josaphat Church, 20 Peoria Avenue, Cheektowaga, NY 14206 for the 11:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial.  Click here for map to church   Following the Mass and dignified transfer, PGR will escort to St. Stanislaus Cemetery, 700 Pine Ridge Heritage Boulevard, Cheektowaga, NY 14225 for interment with Military Honors.  Click here for map to cemetery
