Patriot Guard Riders of New York Inc. is excited to announce Help on the Homefront (HOTH) Veterans Transition Assistance state-wide program.
The Veterans Transition Assistance program is a volunteer outreach program that may provide either a security deposit/first month's rent or one-time delivery of new furniture to U.S. Armed Forces veterans who are in financial need and have been a resident of an in-house rehabilitation/treatment program with Veterans Affairs or another valid veteran agency and now moving into their own residence. The existence of these conditions must be documented and further verified by the valid veteran agency where the veteran has received or is receiving treatment/counseling. This program expands our existing Veteran Furniture Assistance with the option of requesting assistance with the rent for the new residence where the veteran will be moving to.
If these criteria are met and the veteran will be moving to their own residence, he or she may fill out an application for Veterans Transition Assistance where a determination will be made if he or she may qualify for our program. The application form has been simplified for this new Veterans Transition Assistance program and we feel it will be easier for agency case workers, as well as, the veterans to complete.
Another significant change for both Veterans Financial Assistance and Veterans Transition Assistance programs, is the addition of guard or reserve personnel criteria. Guard or reserve personnel that have reached 20 years of service, even if they were never activated on a [federal] order for more than 180 days outside of training, will now be considered a veteran. Or if they were activated for more than 180 days consecutively and they were not dishonorably discharged.
(Note: Veteran must be a resident of New York State.)
Our new HOTH Flyer, write-up on the program, and new application form for download are now up on our website: Help On The Homefront
These changes are more encompassing for our homeless veterans that are transitioning to their own residence. We are looking forward to helping more veterans with these changes.
Best regards,
