About the Mission:

The family of Donald P. Gilbert, Sr. has requested Patriot Guard Rider participation in his military honors funeral service. Donald, 75, passed on 3 July 2022.

Born in Troy, Donald served in the US Marine Corps between 1965 and 1967, including a tour of duty with the 1st Battalion, 7th marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division in South Vietnam. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Lance Corporal, and for his service, was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal w/60 device and the Marksman Badge - Rifle (M-14).

Donald later made a career as a welder at Chatham Installations and Welding, Co. Previously, he was a member of the American Legion Post 42. He enjoyed westerns, reading, fishing, eating out, lotto, watching sports, and spending time with family. Coin collecting was a passion for him.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: NYS Guidelines of 2 March 2022, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.

Special Information:

Staging at the funeral home with a flag line during a portion of the visitation hours of 4:00 - 7:00 pm. Interment with military honors to be conducted on Friday, July 7, 2022, 10:00 am, at Saratoga National Cemetery.
