About the Mission:

The family of MSgt. David R. Graff has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. David, 80, died peacefully on Friday, March 22, 2024.

Born in Amsterdam, NY, David was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School class of 1961. Following high school, David served in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965. Not long after being honorably discharged, he worked for Western Electric from 1965 – 1973. He then decided to join the 109th Airlift Wing of the Air National Guard at Stratton Air National Guard base in Scotia, NY. There, he served his country for 26 years from 1973 – 1999 as Master Sergeant of the Aeronautical Engineering Repair Shop.

In 1975, David was part of the original team that was entrusted with the first and only active mission in the Air National Guard: Supply of the Distant Early Warning (DEW Line) radar sites in Greenland on the polar ice cap. Later, he became part of the inaugural team that supported the United States Antarctic Program (USAP) Antarctic mission, providing open field support to the National Science Foundation’s scientific research mission in Antarctica. He was extremely proud of the years spent servicing the LC-130 planes and his numerous trips to Greenland and Antarctica, making friends all over the world.

Upon retirement from the Air National Guard, David had a short tenure with the NY Board of Fire Underwriters, Inc. as an electrical inspector. Following this he pursued his own business, David R. Graff Electrical, full-time.

Portions of the above narrative are contained in David's obituary, available for viewing online by clicking here
