About the Mission:

The family of Global War on Terrorism veteran Michael James Hilty has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and service. Mr. Hilty of Hamburg, NY passed away on 16 February 2024.

Mr. Hilty served our nation for a total of 11 years in the US Air Force and Air National Guard from 1999-2010. His Air Force Specialties were Security Forces Craftsman and Security Forces Journeyman-Combat Arms, and he was assigned to the 107th Security Squadron at Niagara Falls Air Base. Mr. Hilty participated in deployments in support of Operation Noble Eagle and Operation Enduring Freedom during the period 2001-2003. He received his honorable discharge on 7 January 2010 with the rank of Technical Sergeant (E-6), and he earned the following awards: Air Force Commendation Medal w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster (2 Awards); Air Force Achievement Medal; Air Force Outstanding Unit Award w/ Valor Device and 1 Oak leaf Cluster (2 Awards); Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal w/3 Oak Leaf Clusters (4 Awards); National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service medal; Air Force Overseas Short Term Ribbon; Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon; Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon; Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/1 Hourglass Device and "M" Mobilization Device; Air Force Training Ribbon; NYS Long & Faithful Service Award; and NYS Defense of Liberty Ribbon.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR will provide a respectful flag line for arrival of the family and guests, and the funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 AM. There is no escort or cemetery involved in this mission.

Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or US Air Force flag, and dress for the weather. Thank you for devoting your time to help honor the USAF Global War on Terrorism service of Michael James Hilty, and to support his loving family.

PLEASE NOTE: This Mission occurs just prior to the one in Kenmore, NY for US Marine Corps veteran Michael James Hakes. Please plan accordingly.
