About the Mission:

Patriot Guard Riders of NY has been requested to stand in honor of the extraordinary life and service of Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Edward W. Reich of Livonia, NY, who passed away on 10 August 2022.

Quoting from the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home obituary: "Ed graduated from Alden Central School (1959), Cornell University (1963) with a major in Agriculture, Franklin Univ. (1975, Columbus, OH) majoring in Accounting, and the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College (1979). At Cornell he was a member of Alpha Zeta Agricultural Fraternity. He served 3 ½ years active duty in the U.S. Army, training in basic infantry, maintenance, logistics, and qualifying as a parachutist. He served 110 miles behind the then, “Iron Curtain”, in Berlin, Germany. One of his many assignments was to patrol Communist East Berlin as part of the Allied defense efforts. Upon discharge from active-duty Ed remained in the N.Y. & Ohio Army Reserve for 24 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel."

LTC Reich's awards include: Army Parachutist Badge; Army of Occupation Badge (Germany); National Defense Service Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/Hourglass; Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal w/3 Oak Leaf Clusters; Ohio National Guard Faithful Service Medal w/2 Oak Leaf Clusters; and Ohio National Guard Special Service Medal.

Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines:

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: NYS Guidelines of 2 March 2022, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR will stand by in preparation for providing an escort (approx. 55 miles) to Lancaster Rural Cemetery, 70 Cemetery Road, Lancaster, NY 14086.  KSU at 9:15 AM. The graveside service with Military Honors is scheduled for 11:00 AM.

NOTE: If you are unable to participate in the escort, please consider staging directly at the cemetery at 10:00 AM with a flag line for arrival of the cortege.
Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or US Army flag, dress for the weather, and ensure your large flags are securely attached for the long escort.
