About the Mission:

The family of John F. Myrtle, Jr. has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and service. Mr. Myrtle of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on 14 March 2024.

Mr. Myrtle served our nation for 3 years on active duty in the US Army Signal Corps from 1968-1971, with an Army MOS of 05B20-Radio & Teletype Operator. Mr. Myrtle was assigned to Headquarters Company, 293rd Engineer Battalion, and his service included a 12-month deployment to Vietnam, as well as duty in Germany. Mr. Myrtle was honorably discharged from active duty on 9 July 1971 with the rank of Specialist Four (SP4) (E-4), and he earned the following awards: National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; 2 Army Overseas Bars; and M-14, M-16 Rifle Sharpshooter Qualification Badges.

A Dubois Funeral Home obituary has not yet been published.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR will provide a respectful flag line for arrival of the family and friends. The funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 AM. There is no cemetery or escort involved in this Mission.

Please consider donating your time to help honor the US Army Vietnam War service of John F. Myrtle, Jr., and to support his loving family.

NOTE: This Mission is at the same time as one in Blasdell, NY (Don Becker, LRC.) Please try to ensure both Missions have adequate coverage.
