About the Mission: On Saturday, April 17, Nassau County will conduct a street renaming ceremony in honor of Sgt. Robert A. Hendriks.  Sgt. Hendricks, along with Sgt. Benjamin S. Hines and Staff Sgt. Christopher K.A. Slutman were killed April 8, 2019 while conducting combat operations in Parwan Province, Afghanistan.  The three Marines were killed when their vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device near Bagram Air Base, North of Kabul. They were assigned to the 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve.  The Patriot Guard Riders had the honor of standing for Sgt. Hendriks during his final honors in 2019.

Nassau County will rename a portion of Forest Avenue in Locust Valley "Sgt Robert A. Hendriks Way."

  • ** ADDITIONAL MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Wearing a protective face covering of some kind is required...homemade face-mask, bandanna, etc. (Patriotic face coverings would be particularly appropriate) This will not only provide an extra layer of protection to ourselves and others but will send the message that the PGR takes this crisis seriously and is performing this Mission responsibly.
Special Information: We will stand a flag line at the opening ceremony for this Memorial Mission.  Please bring your own clean 3x5 U.S. Flag or USMC Flag.  Be aware that this event is likely to be heavily covered by the media.
