About the Mission:

The Patriot Guard Riders have been requested by the family of Dr. Lewis R. Russo to participate in his military honors funeral services. Dr. Russo, 90, passed on Wednesday, December 2, 2020.

Born in the Bronx, NY, Dr. Russo was a US Army Korean War combat veteran, earning two Bronze Service Stars for his service at the Battle of Pork Chop Hill, and the Battle of T-bone Hill. In addition, he received the Korean Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

He earned his Bachelor's and Masters's Degree from Hofstra University and his Doctorate from the University of Los Angeles.  Dr. Russo was a Biology teacher at Plainedge High School for 33 years, and an Adjunct Professor at Adirondack Community College. He was a beloved teacher and coach earning multiple awards.  He was an active member of the VFW, American Legion and Knights of Columbus, serving as the chaplain for the American Legion.

  • ** ADDITIONAL MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Wearing a protective face covering of some kind is required...homemade face-mask, bandanna, etc. (Patriotic face coverings would be particularly appropriate) This will not only provide an extra layer of protection to ourselves and others, but will send the message that the PGR takes this crisis seriously and is performing this Mission responsibly.
Special Information:

We will stage at the Funeral Home, with no flag line as Dr. Russo will have already been transferred. We will then escort him to Brant Lake Cemetery, Brant Lake, NY 12815 for an 11:00 am military service. Please do what you can to honor this American hero and to support his loving family and friends.
