MISSION UPDATE: As mentioned in the original posting, this is a rural cemetery with gravel tracks (some of it very loose) and a strip of raised grass in the middle.  After "scouting" the cemetery, motorcycles are NOT recommended.  Parking is limited, so car-pooling whenever possible is recommended.

About the Mission: The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited,by the family, to stand in honor of the life and services of Gerald R. Handy at his military honors funeral services. Gerald, 70, of died Tuesday, February 25, 2020.

Born in Cobleskill, NY, Gerald was a United States Army veteran, trained as a Field Wireman (MOS 36K20). He proudly served his country with three tours of duty in Vietnam between 5 December 1968 and 16 March of 1972. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Specialist 4th Class (E4), and for his service he received the US Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm and the New York State Conspicuous Service Cross.

Gerald was a disabled veteran belonging to the DAV. He retired from Lancaster Development, Inc. of Richmondville as a laborer after several years. In his leisure, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, but most of all, spending time with his three grandsons.

  • * ADDITIONAL MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Wearing a protective face covering of some kind is required...homemade facemask, bandanna, etc. (Patriotic face coverings would be particularly appropriate) This will not only provide an extra layer of protection to ourselves and others, but will send the message that the PGR takes this crisis seriously and is performing this Mission responsibly.
Special Information: Staging at the cemetery with a flag line for the arrival of the funeral procession. Interment with military honors scheduled for 10:00 AM.
Please note that this is a rural cemetery with domed, gravel lanes. Riders should use caution when moving through the grounds.
